From the archives……Cologne, Germany

It´s 2 years since we went to Germany for a Christmas holiday and I still remember how great it was to get all rugged up for the cold winter days. The only annoying thing was that the shops were closed for the first 3 days we were there. This photo was taken in one of the quieter back streets of cologne and it was one of my favourites from the holiday. Taken with my then new Canon 500D & a Tomioka 55mm f/1.4 lens then converted to black and white.

Hibiscus…..Nothing like a bit of colour

Popped around to visit my friend JD today and noticed this  hibiscus next to his apartment so I fired off a couple of shots and this was the result. Being a bit of an overcast day always helps with floral photos as the harsh sun can ruin an image.Taken with the trusty 1Ds mark 2 & Olympus OM Zuiko 24mm f/2.8.

Sony Ericsson….to the rescue!

Well I was going to take my compact camera today but thought that it would be pointless as I wasn´t really going to be anywhere exciting to take photos but I saw these amazing clouds in the sky. What to do? Something I never really do and that is use my phone! So I framed up and captured this photo. Pretty happy with the outcome:)

Light between clouds….

This is another photo from yesterday when the evening sun was getting lower in the sky. It brought out detail in this old ruin and the clouds made for a nice contrasting background.

When light falls……

I´m going to try and post some different images in my blog to the ones I put on Flickr (EWR72) as I tend to double up on the photos which isn´t very productive. This was one from this afternoon when the sunlight was not too harsh and fell nicely on the green leaves. The red flowers added a splash of colour. I thought that it may look nice, cropped and placed on a white background. Taken with the Canon 1Ds mark ii and OM Zuiko 24mm f/2.8. I have had this lens glued to my camera since last June I think and I really like the combination so it´s staying put!!!

2012…..

First day of the year, so first post of the year. Just wanted to share a photo from the archives that I came across on my computer again yesterday. I had gone along with Pro-Photographer John Hicks to help him with some lighting for a shoot he was doing at this pool and we were greeted with an awesome sky. I remember thinking it would be great for some coastal seascapes but there wasn´t time but I am really glad we were at this place as it is something I would have missed out on.

The light continues…….

Here´s another image from my new favourite spot on the island. Actually the sky was not so wonderful this time so I concentrated more on details, excluding the sky. I like the way the  golden evening light played upon the leaves of this small bush. There is still plenty more to explore around this area and tonight I went back as the light was great and there was more life in the sky. Hope to post a few more images soon. So until then here is the photo…..Golden Light…..

Long Time No Post

Well instead of rambling on how lazy I am about not posting to this blog I am just going to add an image I took yesterday and we´ll see what happens from there. Amazing evening light the last few nights.

Melbourne 2011 – Part Two

I have finally finished putting the photos from my recent holiday onto CDs so here are a few from around the great city of Melbourne. All photos were taken with the Canon 500D and Sigma 10-20mm lens. I will be adding some new photos soon from Phillip Island and the Botanical Gardens in Melbourne which was a great place to walk around.

MELBOURNE 2011

Well, I am back from a great holiday to Melbourne visiting family and friends. The time went very fast indeed but I was able to do quite a few things and re-visit some places around the city. I am currently editing my photos from the trip so that should take a while but I´m getting through them bit by bit. I ended up deciding to take the Canon 500D (which was a great deal lighter than the Canon 1Ds2) combined with three lenses, Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and Canon 200mm f/2.8L. The 30mm f/1.4 got the most use followed by the 10-20mm then the 200mm. I also took along the trusty Panasonic LX3 for it´s great macro potential. Here´s one photo with the Canon 500D and Sigma 10-20mm combination of St.Paul´s Cathedral. I hope to post a few more entries from my Melbourne holiday as soon as the photos are processed.
